The presentation looked at some reasons accountants should be using Facebook and some methods for utilising it. There was also a brief look at the other existing and emergent social media platforms out there too.

We don’t really mind, but this article sums up why using Google Plus is a really good idea to help your business engage with its audience or just to help your SEO. Please don’t take our word for it though and read this article:

8-ways-to-drive-traffic-to-your-site-with-google

“…This makes Google+ more important than ever for your business. Even if you don’t think your customers are yet active on Google+, you need to get on it for the SEO value. By doing some simple steps like consistently post on the same topics and grow your Google+ followers, you help Google drive even more customers to your site.”

We’re now recommending and building Google+ brand (business) pages for all our clients, get in touch if we can help you too.

This detailed but very worth reading report identifies (and quantifies) those differences. Well worth a read:

From Social Media to Social CRM, IBM Institute for Business Value

Why is this significant for a business? Well, in the past when you posted something to your business Facebook page, for example, the content wouldn’t appear in Google search results. Google+ now has the equivalent of the Facebook page where your brand or business can post content. Google has announced that public posts will now be ‘indexed’ and if you’re logged into Google you’ll see content relating to your search from your circle of Google+ friends.

The only time social media posts have appeared in Google results before was when Tweets were appearing in real-time search results. That ended last year when Google decided not to renew their contract with Twitter. This recent development is a really clever move by Google that allows you and other people posting content on Google+ to affect (and potentially improve) your Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) rankings and thus get more visitors to your website just by simply posting content to Google+. Google is calling this “Search Plus Your World”.

Up until now, there wasn’t much desire (in our humble opinion!) for businesses and organisations to start posting content to Google+ as we are all busy enough trying to keep Twitter, Linkedin and Facebook up to date. However, if your business relies on web traffic, this is a major reason to start looking into using Google+ as it signals another major shift in the way search engines might be changing; from only looking at the fixed pages of your business, to what you business is saying on the social web.

Will this mean that other social media sites like Facebook will open up its public posts to other search engines like Microsoft’s Bing (Facebook’s official search engine partner)? Let’s wait and see. If you want to find out more you can read this article on Search Plus Your World.

Creating a Google+ page for your business is a fairly straight forward affair but please feel free to get in touch if you need any assistance building a Google+ brand page or to find out more about getting the most from social media for your business.

Already using Google+? Add Mogi Marketing to your circles.

Not another Facebook change! Introducing the Facebook Timeline

If we hear one recurrent gripe about Facebook, it’s that ‘it keeps bloody changing!’

Facebook’s latest change is the introduction of theTimeline. This has come just before Facebook has gone public and is a completely new way of displaying your personal profile.

What the Timeline does is turns Facebook into more of a micro-blogging platform (like Tumblr and Posterous) and less like the social network sites we’ve grown accustomed too. You can see past conversations more easily and also it feels more like a personal webpage because of a large canvas image at the top of the page.

Facebook says: “Timeline is a feature that turns users’ personal profiles into virtual scrapbooks”.

In addition, Facebook has launched Timeline Apps which allow something called ‘frictionless sharing’; the automatic updating of your timeline as you interact with media.

The development of more apps won’t mean much to the majority of us at the moment but what these apps will allow us to do is comment and share even more seamlessly with media such as the videos we’re watching, music we’re listening too and the places we’ve been. The concept is also behind the rebirth of MySpace who will be launching MySpace TV through Panasonic Televisions.

In our opinion the rolling out of the new Timeline isn’t negative a negative change as it’s now easier to find old posts and it feels more like a personal diary, although I can see some people might wish that moments in their past weren’t so easy to find!

Oh, and just in case you wondered if there’s a way of keeping your existing profile?

The answer is no. ;-)

Watch a Facebook video to find out more about the Timeline or read another article on Frictionless sharing (coming soon).

How Social Media Affects Content Relevance in Search

How Social Media Affects Content Relevance in Search:
Social media is changing how search engines rank web pages this article looks at how. One of the most intersting bits of research revealed:

…tweets and Google+ shares dramatically affected the rank of new, previously unindexed content. The results in most cases were nearly instant.

Here’s a bit more about the article:

Shane Snow is co-founder of Contently.com, an “agile publishing” platform for brands-turned-publishers and freelance journalists. Old school SEO pros cover your ears, or be prepared to adapt your craft: Search engines are changing, and social media is a huge part of that change.

Getting on page 1 of Google with Tumblr

Tumblr is a simple yet fully featured blogging platform that we here at Mogi Marketing love and it has the added benefit of helping get your website to the first page of Google!

We have just launched our new website and are really pleased to see that Tumblr has helped take us to page one of Google for the search result ‘Mogi Marketing’ despite there being competitors with much more established websites:

This success isn’t completely coincidental (although we were surprised how quickly we’ve started ranking!) as we carefully chose the business name of Mogi to be quirky and we felt that we could, over time, dominate the search engines for our key words. Fingers-crossed we carry on!

If you want to create a Tumblr account you can do so for free and start blogging!

Facebook by the Numbers [INFOGRAPHIC]

Facebook by the Numbers [INFOGRAPHIC]:

The Social Media Infographics Series is supported by Vocus’ Social Media Strategy Tool, a free, six-step online tool that lets you build a custom social media framework tailored to your organization’s goals.
Mogi Marketing is a digital marketing agency specialising in getting your business, project, product or service seen by the online world.

It’s always tough writing that very first blog post so I thought we’d give you a day in the life ‘snap-shot’ of what we’re doing today and that will kind of sum up what we do.

Before the first cup of coffee
One of our clients has asked us to write a blog post as part of a series where we publicise the range of their products from A-Z over the next few months (they have 60+ products!) Once it’s live we’ll push the blog post to Facebook, Twitter and their other social media channels and bookmark it on social bookmarking sites to improve their SEO.

After a cup of tea and a biscuit
Social media is a great way to get the word out about something new so today we are writing a proposal document for a competition to attract mountain bikers to the new Cognation website (due to go live at the end of the year) on behalf of Neath Port Talbot Council. It will most likely be a run on their Facebook page with a sign-up form on their website.

After lunch
Working for the Welsh Assembly and the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) Mogi has put together an e-newsletter to publicise the latest content on the 21st Century School website. This involves ensuring it is translated into Welsh and all the content is correct on the website.

As you can see lot’s happens even on a Friday!

Mogi Marketing's Website Coming soon

Mogi Marketing's Website Coming soon:
The website will be live soon at the moment we are busy building it!

"this is the latest post, which actually isn’t very interesting!"

““this is the latest post, which actually isn’t very interesting!””

This is our logo!

This is our logo!

Welcome to Mogi Marketing!

This is our first post and as such we’re just seeing how the content will look when live on our blog.
